The new black Wii

October 30th, 2009

Engadget has some shots of the new black Wii, which looks way better than my dingy yellow-ish stained white one.

“Those lucky enough to live in Europe will soon (as in November 6th soon) be able to purchase a special edition of that black Nintendo Wii some of us have been drooling over for the past few months. Sure, it’s just a regular Wii… but it’s black, which is so much cooler. Well someone’s finally gotten their hands on it and done an unboxing, and we have to say that it looks even better than it did in the press shots. The limited edition Black Wii bundle with Wii Sports Resort and a Motion Plus controller will run you around £164.99 in the UK, and those of us in the US? Well, we’ll just have to make due with the black controller and nunchuk.”

Top 25 movie deaths

October 30th, 2009

BEWARE: This is some sick shit.

It makes me smile to see multiple Nightmare on Elm Street deaths on the list.

Here’s a video of the statue in all its machete wielding glory:

My animatronic Freddy Kruger bust would look damn fine next to this bad boy.

Real lightning on the Percy Jackson billboard

October 30th, 2009

On Wednesday evening, the makers of Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief set off real lightning on the film’s billboard on the Sunset Strip. Check out the video I shot of the stars of the film being introduced and setting off the lightning. Excuse the poor video quality… I shot it on an iPhone 3G… so give me a break.

The Happiness Hat

October 30th, 2009

Designer Lauren McCarthy has designed an undercover medieval torture device she likes to call The Happiness Hat. The hat brings on “happiness” by forcing you to smile… when you frown a sensor in the hats detects your unhappiness and sticks a sharp little piece of metal into your head. The only way to stop the pain is to smile. Lauren believes that the hat can work as a conditioning device and, eventually, you’ll end up smiling all the time even without the hat!

Hopkins cast in Thor

October 30th, 2009

Anthony Hopkins has been brought on board to star as Thor’s father, Odin, in the upcoming film adaptation of Thor. Hopkins will star in the film alongside Chris Hemsworth as Thor (Kirk’s dad in the new Star Trek), Natalie Portman as Thor’s lady friend, and Tom Hiddelston as Thor’s brother/nemesis Loki (some British guy who hasn’t starred in anything I’ve ever heard of). I’m still not convinced that this movie is going to be good.

Twilight returning to theatres for one night only

October 30th, 2009

On November 19 (a day before New Moon hits theatres), Summit has announced that they will re-release the first Twilight flick into theatres. Seeing as most Twi-hards will be seeing New Moon at midnight the night of 11/19, I would expect some sort of first movie & second movie double feature package to be offered by most theatres.

The World’s Fastest Nudist

October 30th, 2009

Last month, videos started popping up on YouTube of a man wearing little more than a strategically placed fanny pack running through New York. He called himself “The World’s Fastest Nudist” and no one knew why he was doing what he was doing or who he really was. Well now we know. In the most recent video entry in the WFN saga, the in-the-buff runner is ambushed by a group of Zappos.com employees that jump out of a van and clothe the naked man with items found at Zappos.com. People seem to be associating the reveal at the end of a viral campaign with being tricked and are likening it to something like the Balloon Boy hoax… if this kind of association continues, I would imagine viral campaigns might not give the positive lift to a brand image that the marketers are going for.
