3D Blu-ray specs released

Posted on December 18, 2009 by admin | No Comments

A uniform set of guidelines has been established for 3D movie discs. The new Blu-ray discs will be capable of displaying 3D images on TVs that utilize active shuttering technology (expensive) or polarized lenses (cheap-ish). The compression technology used on the new discs will allow a single Blu-ray disc to show 1080p resolution in 3D (that’s impressive). If you have a PS3, you won’t need a new Blu-ray player… if you have another kind of player, you made need to pony up some cash for an upgraded unit. Either way, you’ll still need to buy a new TV though.
