Epix extends reach to Xbox Live

December 5th, 2011

Epix (premium TV joint venture of Viacom, MGM and Lionsgate) has announced that they will be releasing an app for authenticated (meaning people who pay for their stuff) Xbox Live users to have access to over 3,000 movies and TV shows on their consoles. (see previous story for more info on the Xbox software update that this was rolled into)

Awesome… but does anyone have Epix? any of you readers? If so, comment or drop me a note and let me know how it is.

TUACA gets inked by Corey Miller

November 30th, 2011

I actually clicked on a banner on a website today! And what was that banner? Well, I’ll tell you.

It was an ad for TUACA (a yummy wonderful Italian liqueur) that featured the tattoo artist, Corey Miller (greaser looking dude from LA Ink). I think Corey is pretty bad ass and was intrigued by the partnership, so I clicked.

I was forced to ‘Like’ the Facebook page to access materials once I clicked through, which I was cool with because I dig the brand and the spokesperson. I watched a couple videos… and now I want some TUACA.

Job well done advertiser.

There’s no news here… not sure why I wrote it. I guess it’s a little affirmation that what I do for a living works.

Check out the Facebook page for more on this coolio partnership between TUACA and Corey:

Old Spice creeps me out

November 30th, 2011

When the cracked face hits the ground in this ad, it made me feel icky… which I suppose makes me want to get clean… which I suppose I could use Old Spice Body Wash for… an odd purchase path… but definitely a purchase path, nonetheless.

Walgreens adopting mobile coupons at nearly 8,000 locations

November 29th, 2011

Starting on Black Friday, Walgreens started adding 2D, QR code-ish coupons to their mobile app for consumers to scan at more than 7,700 locations… sounds boring, right? Well it’s not. It means that a pretty big retailer is adopting the technology which has been a little slow to pick up in these great United States we call home. So this is a small step in the right direction towards a time when we can use our phones for pretty much everything we normally need to print something out for (coupons, credit cards, transit, vending machines, etc). There are spotty uses for this kind of stuff right now, but it needs more mass adoption.

How effective is Klout’s new system?

November 15th, 2011

Klout (a tool to measure the influence/reach of a person on social media networks like Twitter, Facebook, etc) just made some changes to their formulas. As a result, some people who depend on their stellar score for free and money shit from advertisers just saw a pretty significant drop in their scores.

The author of the article below talks about the whole Klout system and whether or not it’s a relevant tool for measuring someone’s impact on the world wide web.

Go read it. Especially if you’re an ad person and you don’t know what Klout is.

(Please note that Klout says I’m influential in “Jewish” because I posted a tweet about The Bear Jew in Inglorious Basterds)

Hair-Raising Toyota Ad

November 15th, 2011

I’m not sure I’m totally sure how this works but it looks like when you peel open this direct mail piece for the Toyota Yaris, the electrostatic-friendly materials it’s made out of (foil and plastic) makes your arm hair stand on end.

I raise a glass to you sirs and ma’ams. Not sure a normal consumer would give a crap, but a ad geek like me eats this stuff up.
